Joint commitment to proceed with our collaboration

Dear friends, Let me briefly summarise the outcome of our recent meeting between representatives of AZFA and Radio B138. (see picture below from left: Julian Ehrenreich, Peter Kuthan, Mike Schedlberger)

A) First of all we have reiterated our joint commitment to proceed with our collaboration and exchange which has been encouraged by the progress of the radio mast project in Sinazongwe.

Please confirm the receipt of the 2nd instalment and provide us with the respective breakdown of receipts.

We hope that the new mast will extend the outreach of the station even further not only on the Zambian side but also across the lake. It should also stimulate further involvement and participation of stakeholders and communities on both sides.

Radio B138 is asking therefore if you could provide a short radio feature (via whatsApp) about the completion and impact of the new mast in order to broadcast it on this side to keep our friends and stakeholders informed.

B) Another issue discussed is the outdated state and quality of the Operating System at the station which is hardly coping with the actual challenges. We assume that an upgrade would be useful but would require a professional evaluation as a first step. Thereby we would ask Panos to provide for the respective assessment to find out what exactly is needed, at which presumable costs and who could provide it locally. We are keen to step in and contribute.

C) In 2023-24 there has been a vivid exchange going on by the Radio Bridge project between schools in Sinazongwe, Binga and Upper Austria. Radio B138 is interested to embark on a revival of this project if the key players like teachers but also Linda, Penny and Claudia cc are prepared to get involved again. We are going to invite Fadi and Petra also to step in and play a role.

D) What are your plans regarding the Lwiindi Festival in August this year? We assume that this will be an opportunity for another collaboration across the lake with Radio Twasumpuka but also with the group Simonga from Siachilaba to keep up the momentum of our cultural exchange. Unfortunately we cannot make it to attend this time but envisage a participation next year:  Julian, who is a key radio moderator at Radio B138 is keen to visit Sinazongwe in 2027 for a mission of at least 3 weeks not only to experience the African way of radio broadcasting on site but also to share some of his knowledge and expertise.

Looking forward to hear from you soon! Twalumba loko!

Warm Regards

Peter 'Muzamba' Kuthan / AZFA
