During the month of September, the Tonga.Online project reaches a peak both at the Ars Electronica festival in Linz and during the tour of the Austrian music group, Windhund, to the Binga area in Zimbabwe.
TRANSMITTING
In 1957, the ethnomusicologist, Hugh Tracey made over 80 recordings of Tonga music in the Zambezi Valley shortly before the area was flooded to make way for the building of Kariba dam. As part of the Tonga.Online project at Ars Electronica, these recordings return to the valley through a rather complicated series of connections. Read more about the old and new technologies needed to realise this return through THE LOOP.
