The community based Free Radio station FRO is celebrating its 7th anniversary with a party and benefit concert in Linz / Austria in support of Tonga.Online extension and communication infrastructure development in Binga / Zimbabwe and across the waters.

Radio FRO is based at Stadtwerkstatt Linz which has always been a hub for arts and media promotion and production. In 1997, Stadtwerkstatt (with Georg Ritter at the helm) organised the famous expedition of the Tonga Ngoma Buntibe group Simonga (from Siachilaba) across the Dead Mountains in Upper Austria as part of the Festival der Regionen in collaboration with AZFA and Sunnseitn.

The Radio FRO Benefit Concert aims to contribute to the establishment of point to point Radio connections between the existing and upcoming computer centres in Tonga area.

Den 7. Geburtstag von Radio FRO nimmt das freie Linzer Stadtradio zum Anlass, den in Zimbabwe und Zambia lebenden Tonga eine Funkverbindung zu sichern.

Das Entwicklungsprojekt Tonga.Online / Mulonga.net kümmert sich seit Jahren um den Aufbau von Kommunikationsinfrastruktur und die Herstellung eines freien Zugangs zu Information für das im Grenzgebiet von Zimbabwe und Zambia lebende Volk der Tonga. Die Tonga lebten als Fischer, Fährleute und Bauern entlang des Zambezi Stroms, bevor sie vor 50 Jahren dem Kariba Staudamm Platz machen mussten und getrennt in entlegene Halbwüsten nördlich und südlich des Sees umgesiedelt wurden.

Der Erlös der Benefizveranstaltung "FRO feiert 7" kommt dem Aufbau einer Funkverbindung in diesem Gebiet zu Gute, die eine notwendige Voraussetzung für Kommunikation und den Zugang zu Information schafft.
